Icône "Architecte"
L. BOUCKAERT, 1911

A prison designed in 1911 in the Flemish Neo-Renaissance style, based on the cellular model, it comprises a series of four wings radiating out from a central control point (the panopticon). The complex is complemented on the outside by a group of three staff accommodation blocks for prison staff.
Tours are organised by the non-profit organisation 9m2, whose main aim is to transform the former Forest Prison into a space for multidisciplinary reflection on criminal justice and incarceration – past and present, here and elsewhere – to educate and raise awareness amongst a wide audience, to convey and provide a critical and historical perspective on imprisonment and criminal justice policies, but also to highlight the significance of the site and the people involved.
