At Laeken Cemetery, there are many beautiful graves, monuments and sculptures. They were created by Belgium’s finest artists and architects.

One name crops up frequently: Ernest Salu. In fact, there were three Ernest Salus: the grandfather, the father and the son. All three had their studios near the cemetery.

Accompanied by the guide, we visit the Salu family’s house and studio. The house dates from the late 19th century. Each generation made a few changes to the house.

In the workshop, too, there is still much to see, such as the room where customers used to come, the area where the Salus carved, and Ernest Salu III’s office.

There is now a project underway. The house and workshop are to become a museum.

The tour will be interactive. It is designed for literacy and French as a Foreign Language (FLE) groups and aims to meet the expectations of learners as closely as possible. The tour will consist of activities that encourage each member of the group to explore and reflect. It offers cultural insights and draws connections with the daily lives of the group members.

The tour is led by Bénédicte Verschaeren, a tour guide and literacy trainer. The tour is designed for groups of up to 15 people (including accompanying adults).
