06. Du Pont Mansion

This Beaux-Arts-style townhouse, situated on Rue du Collège Saint-Michel, near Avenue de Tervueren, was designed in 1907 by the architect Henri Van Leuven. It features a wide façade characterised by a large gateway which once served as a coach entrance, allowing its patron, Louis Du Pont, to ride on horseback to the Royal Military School. Inside, a grand central staircase of remarkable proportions leads to all the living quarters. A series of mirrors adorns the stairwell, and a vast glass roof comprising a mix of tinted stained-glass panes bathes this prestigious entrance in a riot of colour. This private mansion remains carefully preserved by its occupants, who are true lovers of heritage.
